CBSP – BASIC PLATFORM SECURITY COURSE – IN PERSON

1 – GENERAL OBJECTIVE

“To qualify the student for tasks on board “Offshore” Units, giving them basic knowledge about safety and protection measures on board, in accordance with the recommendations contained in items 5.3, 5.4 and 5.5 and with Tables 5.5.1 to 5.5.6 of Resolution A.1079 (28) of 12/04/2013, of the International Maritime Organization”.

2 – KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED AND OBJECTIVE OF EACH DISCIPLINE

  • Subject: Personal Survival Techniques and Emergency Procedures (TSP/P) – provide students with basic knowledge of on-board emergency procedures and the use of life-saving equipment in offshore units;
  • Subject: Fire Prevention and Fighting (PCI/P) – provide students with basic knowledge of fire prevention and fighting on board offshore units, with the aim of enabling them to act in emergencies;
  • Subject: Elementary First Aid (PSE/P) – provide students with knowledge of basic first aid techniques that should be applied on board offshore units in emergency situations;
  • Subject: Personal Safety and Social Responsibility (SPR/P) provide knowledge to the student, aiming to enable him to identify and follow instructions in emergency situations, practice accident prevention rules and maintain good relationships on board offshore units;
  • Subject: Protection Awareness (CDP/P) provide the student with minimum familiarization knowledge about the protection of the offshore unit, which should be applied on board in emergency situations.

3 – FIELD OF ACTION

The student will be able to embark on Offshore units.

4 – TARGET AUDIENCE

Any Non-Crew Professional (PNT) or Non-Aquatic Crew Member (TNA) indicated or not by the company, to work in Offshore Units and who volunteers to obtain this training may apply.

5 – PREREQUISITES

Be at least 18 years old on the day of enrollment, have completed elementary school and have proof of good physical and mental health.

6 – METHODOLOGY

  • In lectures, instructional resources appropriate to the learning objective should be used, such as: film, video, photos, diagrams, among others, aiming to bring the student closer to the on-board environment.
  • The practical parts of the courses must be carried out in adequately prepared areas with: individual equipment for each student; trained instructors and monitors; event security; and on-site support and rescue. Students must be instructed on safety and appropriate clothing for practical firefighting and rescue classes.

7 – DURATION

The course will be taught in 40 hours divided into 5 days.

8 – VALIDITY

The course has a recommended validity of 5 years.

FAQ

1- Is CBSP accepted by Petrobras?

 Yes. The course is recognized by the Directorate of Ports and Coasts which accredits institutions to provide the Basic Platform Safety Course (CBSP), for Non-Aquatic Crew Members and Non-Crew Professionals, based on NORMAM-24, that is, the course is recognized by any company, as long as the institution is accredited by the DPC.

 2- What does the term Non-Waterborne Crew (NAT) mean?

 Non-aquatic professional who is part of the maritime crew of mobile offshore units and platforms, performing functions related to the operation of these units, which are defined in AMB standards.

 3- What does the term Non-Crew Professional (NCP) mean?

 Anyone who, without performing duties directly linked to the operation of the vessel, provides occasional services on board.

 4- What is the definition of a Platform?

 (LESTA) – fixed or floating installation or structure, intended for activities directly or indirectly related to the research, exploration and exploitation of resources originating from the bed of inland waters and their subsoil or from the sea, including the continental shelf and its subsoil.

5- What is the definition of Mobile Offshore Units (UOM)?

 (IMO Resolution A.1079(28)) – vessels that can be rapidly deployed to other locations and that can perform an industrial function involving offshore operations, in addition to those traditionally provided by vessels covered by Chapter I of the “International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea” – SOLAS Convention 1974. These UOM include at least one of the following units:

  • Column stabilized unit – unit whose main deck is connected to the live works, or footings, by means of columns or floating caissons;
  • Unit without self-propulsion – unit not equipped with mechanical means of propulsion to navigate independently;
  • Self-elevating unit – unit equipped with movable legs, capable of raising its hull above the sea surface;
  • Self-propelled unit – unit equipped with mechanical means of propulsion to navigate independently;
  • Submersible unit – ship-shaped, barge-type or unique hull design unit (other than a jack-up unit) designed to operate while resting on the bottom; and
  • Surface unit – unit with a hull in the shape of a ship or barge, of simple or multiple configuration, designed to operate afloat.

 6- What is the definition of Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit (MODU)?

(IMO Resolution A.1079(28)) – a unit capable of carrying out drilling operations for prospecting or exploiting resources existing below the seabed, such as liquid or gaseous hydrocarbons, sulphur or salt.

 7- What is the definition of a mobile “Offshore” Unit for accommodation?

 (IMO Resolution A.1079(28) – a unit whose primary purpose is to accommodate personnel working in offshore units.

 8- What is the definition of Other “Offshore” unit?

 (IMO Resolution A.1079(28)) – a unit that may be engaged in any single activity, or in a combination of such activities, such as:

  • Construction;
  • Maintenance (including well maintenance);
  • Lifting operation;
  • Pipe laying and related operations;
  • Preparedness for emergencies/contingencies, including firefighting; VI) offshore production system;
  • Accommodations;
  • Storage systems; and
  • Dive.
